Alex in Portsmouth
My last three years living and working in Southsea, Portsmouth have been unbeatable. Portsmouth has got a lot to offer, from its fortified seafront castles dating back to medieval times to its many theatres, museums, bars and clubs, the city can cater for everyone’s interests. The city is built upon its maritime history which blends into a modern redevelopment of the old docks, providing a cosmopolitan area of familiar restaurants and designer stores known as Gunwharf Quays.

Portsmouth is known as the waterfront city as it’s surrounded by water so you’re never far from the pebble beaches or the relaxing atmosphere of the marinas. Its home to a large watersport scene, including offshore sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. The Solent is a stretch of sea encompassed by Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight which provides an ideal playground for pleasure boats of all sizes.

The Hampshire countryside is just a short drive outside of the city so there are plenty of opportunities for a change of scenery. Central London is 90 minutes away by train, although the entertainment in Portsmouth can accommodate even the most demanding of social lives, so I rarely feel the need to take the journey.

There is plenty of housing available in Portsmouth to suit all budgets, with lots of amenities close by  you’ll never be more than a few minutes walk from shops, services and public transport.
